Day 23: Write a letter to someone,anyone.
Dear 10 year old Emily,
Although things may seem quite frankly crap right now, things get better. You’re going through a difficult time right now, what with moving schools and having to say goodbye to old friends.
Unfortunately next year, something is going to happen that will hurt you and take you years to get over. Another 10 years in fact, until you have that chat with dad in the car on the way to Auntie Elaine’s. It was just something that had to happen to make our family stronger.
You’ll start secondary school and feel like small fish in a big pond. The bullying will continue, but you’ll find a good group of people to hang out with. There are good people out there,it just takes you a while to trust people due to you being bullied. You’ll love Media and English because your teachers are amazing! Mr Payne will get you into one of the best Tv shows ever,Gavin and Stacey, and later on when you turn 22 you’ll get to visit Barry Island where it is set. Miss Foster will broaden your reading horizons and forever be a teacher you admire. Just like Mrs Mitchell in primary school.
You do ok in your exams. Prom is one of the best nights ever! Then you move on to the new chapter in your life. College! Here is where you truly begin to find yourself and make some of your three bestest friends in Lucy,Sophie and Megan. You’ll party the night away at your 18th which is one of the best nights of your life spent with great people! You also get your braces! Which means a two year wait until the op that will completely change you for the better and give you the confidence you need.
2012 is a bit crappy with having to sign on. You do however, find solace and friends through the actor Tom Hiddleston. You’ll start writing and love it.
Then you’ll go to university and study Magazine Journalism! You’ll completely find yourself there. Realise who you’re meant to be and make friends for life in Sarah,Amie,Tim,Sammeh and Mehrnaz! They’ll make uni the best time of you life. There will be many ups and downs during this time but your friends will always stick by you.
The three years will fly by but you’ll learn so much about yourself. Both in what you’re capable of and how to fend for yourself. You’ll have your jaw surgery which will make you so much more happy and confident as a person. You’ll discover an escapism in the world of the theatre. And generally they’ll be the best three years of your life.
And then you’ll graduate which will be another one of those emotional yet ‘best days of you life’ moments. Hold on to those.
Then the summer after you’ve graduated you’ll meet a person,a boy who will love you for who you are. It’s strange at first to think he loves you for who you are because you were so insecure growing up. However, hold onto him. Hold onto him and all your friends you’ve made throughout this journey they call life. Because they’ll be the ones there to catch you when you fall.
So 10 year old Emily. Hang in there. The bullying will eventually stop and you’ll be happier in the long run. You’ll be able to say poke it to those people who made school hell further down the line because you came out a better person than they did.
Lots of love
22(a week till 23) year old Emily
